Areas of interest

Teaching interests:

  • Teaching Russian language to students as a foreign language and Russian grammar to native Russian language speakers
  • Russian culture including history, classical and contemporary literature, music, cinema and art
  • Russian language and culture in Russia and in the Russian speaking countries of Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, etc), Caucuses (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan) and Europe ( Ukraine and Baltic countries).

Research interests:

I completed my PhD at the Tashkent State University, in the Department of Modern Russian Language. The topic of the dissertation was ‘Word-formative modifications of  ‘space’-‘time’ in Modern Russian’ 

Teaching

I teach on the Languages for All Russian programme.

Background

I am from Uzbekistan, in Central Asia. I have a PhD in Russian language. 

I taught at Tashkent University during the1990s.   In 1999, I moved to the UK to take a Master’s Degree in Political Science at Reading University.  I continued to teach at Reading for a couple of years, and then in London.  My non-university students included diplomats, bankers and people just interested in learning Russian for pleasure.  I began teaching Russian again at Reading University from 2011. In total, I have now been teaching Russian, for more than 25 years.
