University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

Human embryo models: Professor Darius Widera (Pharmacy) is quoted in The Telegraph, The Daily Mail (in print), Evening Standard, France24, Times of India, Yahoo! News, Largs and Millport News, Manila Bulletin, Today Singapore, The Standard, South Wales Argus, The Reading Chronicle, Daily Express (in print), The Daily Telegraph (in print) and a wide range of global news outlets on the research by scientists who have grown complete models of human embryos. Professor Widera says the models are ‘getting more sophisticated’.

#PlanetPartners: working with global partners to protect the environment  

  • PhD researcher Isabel Smith (Meteorology) spoke to ITV 1 on how the increase of energy into the atmosphere is resulting in more extreme weather events. Isabel also spoke to Popular Mechanics on the unexpected nature of turbulence and the danger passengers could potentially face (Republished by Yahoo! Life.
  • An Evening Standard article on flash flooding features a video made by Dr Rob Thompson (Meteorology) demonstrating what happens when we get heavy rainfall after a heatwave. The article also includes comment from Dr Thompson, and is republished by Yahoo! News.  
  • Worker's Compensation reports that recent studies from the University of Reading found that air turbulence is on the rise thanks to climate change.  
  • PBC Today mentions ARUP’S Urban Heat model and how it draws upon an advanced climate model developed by the University of Reading.

#UniForReading: our role as a civic university   

  • Professor Robert Van De Noort (Vice-Chancellor) writes for Reading Today and Wokingham Today on the exciting project with the Natural History Museum, which aims to create a new collections, research and digitisation centre at the University’s Thames Valley Science Park in Shinfield.

  • Open Access Government reports on new research involving Professor Jane Parker (Food and Nutritional Sciences) which has enabled scientists to build an AI tool to predict the odour profile of a molecule. Read our news story.

  • BBC Radio 4 replayed an interview with Professor Bryan Cheyette (English Literature) on the history Jewish characters on screen.  
  • In a report by AdvanceHE, it is revealed that the Academic Development team at the University of Exeter used the University of Reading’s A-Z of Assessment Methods to develop an AI and Assessment Matrix.  
  • University of Glasgow mentions that Dr Darko Maričević (Archaeology) was a part of the interdisciplinary team for a recent archaeological excavation of a Neolithic Cursus on the Isle of Arran. Also republished by MyScience. 

Alumni: 

  • SMMT and Asset Finance mention that Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, Adrian Hallmark, has a diploma in Management Studies from Henley Business School.
  • Northwest Newspaper reports that newly appointed Chief Operations Officer for Magalies Water, Mr Ofentse Nthutang, is currently enrolled for a Master’s in Business Administration at Henley Business School.
  • Eleftherios Dariostis earned his MSc in Horticulture at the University of Reading, Gardens Illustrated (in print) reports.
