University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

Storm Ciaran: 

  • BBC Radio 5 spoke to Professor Hannah Cloke (Geography/Meteorology) on the better preparation that needs to be taken for storms like Storm Babet and Ciarán. 

  • BBC Berkshire, Greatest Hits Radio and BBC Surrey spoke to Dr Jess Neuman (Geography and Environmental Science) who says that flooding could be a problem as Storm Ciarán passes through the region.  

  • Professor Suzanne Gray (Meteorology) explains the science behind Storm Ciarán for LBC News.  

  • Professor Ed Hawkins (Meteorology) is quoted by New Scientist on the likelihood of Storm Ciarán setting a record for the lowest air pressure in the region. Republished by Dicomo Giornale.

  • Reuters quotes Dr Laura Wilcox (Meteorology), who says that a computer simulation showed the rapid decline of SO2 (sulphur dioxide) in China, raising temperatures on extreme-heat days.   • Dr Daniel Lamport (Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences) is quoted by BBC Food about the consumption of healthy foods boosting cognitive performance due to their high concentration of polyphenols.

  • Vice Chancellor, Professor Robert Van De Noort, writes for Reading Today and Wokingham Today on the University of Reading's sustainable catering options, helping to address the global climate crisis.

 

#UniForReading: our role as a civic university 

  • Reading Today reports that the University of Reading, Reading University Students’ Union, and Reading College have created a Safer Student partnership to improve safety for students around Reading.

Business and society:

  • BNN mentions that a study from the Henley Business School found that four-day workweeks saved firms nearly £92 billion per year.
