University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

#PlanetPartners: working with global partners to protect the environment  

  • Phys.org, Times of Malta, Urdu Point, Gulf Times, Malay Mail, Refresh.news, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, The Times of India, Macau News Agency, News18, Zawya, Terra Daily, The Journal, The New Nation, Daily Times and many other global news outlets quote Professor Hannah Cloke (Geography/Meteorology) on the complex links between climate change and winter storms, with rain storms and flooding expected over wintertime. 
  • Professor Suzanne Gray (Meteorology) and Dr Ambrogio Volonté (Meteorology) co-wrote a piece for The Conversation on why Storm Ciarán’s winds were so strong. The article was republished by Big News Network.
  • Phys.org publishes a story about how maths can be used to predict how close Earth is to reaching dangerous ‘climate tipping points’. Professor Valerio Lucarini (Mathematics), who led the research, is quoted. Read our news story.
  • Zawya, Trading View, Go Dubai, Dubai PR Network, Alternative Energy, Eat’n Stays, Web Release report that research published by the University of Reading found an increase of clear-air turbulence over the past four decades due to a warming climate.  
  • Construction News reports on the new European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), which will be situated at the University of Reading.

Health and wellbeing 

  • Inverse reports that psychologists and philosophers from the University and doctors and patients from the NHS have explored the views people hold about pain and how patients can benefit from certain kinds of pain treatment.

  • BBC Kent, BBC Berkshire, BBC Surrey, BBC Oxford and BBC Sussex provide coverage on a video by student Tarek Ahmed, who highlights the benefits of taking a solo trip, featured on BBC Radio’s Upload programme.
  • BBC Oxford, BBC Berkshire and BBC Solent spoke to Professor Helen Parish (History) on the history on Bonfire Night and how it became an annual event we mark.  
  • The Washington Post quotes Professor Michael Schmitt (Law) on the conflict/violence between Israel and Hamas. Republished by Pedfire, Stars and Stripes, Stuff, The Japan News and Anchorage Daily News.  
  • Reading Museum is set to host the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL)’s Our Green Stories Tour series, seeing Dr Ollie Douglas (Curator of MERL Collections) being joined by Dr Hannah Lyons (Curator of Art Collections), Wokingham Today and Reading Today report.     
  • A visually impaired student from the University of Reading, Jonathan Charmley, who worked with an archaeology team to excavate an 8th Century Monastery, spoke to ABC Media 1 about the excavation.      

Alumni: 

  • Melanie Allvey, a qualified therapist and events professional, has a background in stress management and the psychology of anxiety and low moods from the University of Reading, The Business Travel Magazine reports.
  • Zawya reports that H.E. Dr Abdalla Belhaif Alnuaimi earned his PhD in engineering management from the University.
  • Real estate and site search director for Merlin Entertainments in Hong Kong, Piers Steward, graduated from the University of Reading, Mingtiandi mentions.
