University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

Russian attack classed as war crime: Professor Marko Milanovic (Law) is quoted by the Daily Mail, Dev Discourse, Reuters, Today Online, Investing, The Star, Market Screener, Street Insider, TVP World, Investing, First Post, Yahoo!, News 18, and MSN on how Russia's recent attack on a Ukrainian dam could be classified as a war crime. 

 

Four-day workweek trial: Dr Rita Fontinha (Henley Business School) was interviewed by BBC News and BBC World Service Radio on the benefits of the four-day work week, as she continues to co-coordinate a pilot of the new work structure in Portugal. BBC Radio Cymru, and BBC Radio 4 aired the interview. CNBC, HNGN, and Head Topics report on her collaborative findings that the Portuguese workforce works more than 40 hours per week on average.  

 

Pope gifted climate stripes: Professor Ed Hawkins' (Meteorology) climate stripes have been gifted to the Pope this World Environment Day (5 June), and Hawkins comments on how the stripes have helped the Pope to introduce the climate emergency to another "large part of society", report Greatest Hits Radio Online, Wokingham Today, and RDG Today.

 

#PlanetPartners: working with global partners to protect the environment 

  • GB News and ABC News Online report on Professor Paul Williams' (Meteorology) findings that climate change is increasing clear-air turbulence.
  • Professor Simon Potts (Agriculture) will respond to a government enquiry on insect decline on 7 June, RDG Today and Wokingham Today report. He was interviewed by BBC Radio Berkshire and discussed the impact of their decline. Read our news story.
  • Professor Hannah Cloke (Geography/Meteorology) is quoted by VN Explorer on the changing definition of UK heatwaves.

 

Health and wellbeing:

  • Flavanols, a micronutrient found in tea, berries and apples, have a positive effect on memory, a study co-authored by Professor Gunter Kuhnle (Food and Nutritional Sciences) and published in PNAS has found. Continued coverage by The Sun (in print - request print copy), Inter Reviewed, and Ex Bulletin. 
  • Professor Gunter Kuhnle (Food and Nutritional Sciences) is quoted by Pesquisa Fapesp the on the healthiness of processed foods, and VN Explorer on the healthiness of comfort foods such as sausage rolls.

 

#UniForReading: our role as a civic university  

  • RDG Today and Wokingham Today report on the Whiteknights Studio Trail, which will be hosted at the University on 10 and 11 June.
  • Yahoo! reports local SEND students took part in a rural fashion workshop, organised by the University's Museum of Rural English Life (MERL). 

 

Society:

  • Professor Kate Williams (History) was interviewed by BBC Radio 5 Live on the last time a royal was in court. This comes as Prince Harry is in court, fighting a legal case against Mirror Group Newspapers.

 

Alumni:

  • Iain McPherson, the owner of cocktail bar, Panda and Sons, transferred his knowledge from a "Science of Ice-cream Course" at the University to the science of frozen cocktails, Bite Magazine (in print) reports.
