University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

Food and farming:

  • Professor Gunter Kuhnle (Food) is quoted by the Daily Mail, Today Headline, Public News Time, Mogaz News, Express Digest, Express Informer, Health Medicine Network, and Web Times on the effects of sugar on the body and the benefits of lowering your daily intake, and by the Daily Mail, Huff Post, Yahoo!, Public News Time, Express Digest, Express Informer, Health Medicine Network, and Web Times on the effectiveness of the well-known 'five-a-day' message. 
  • Professor Carol Wagstaff (Food) was interviewed by BBC Radio Berkshire on how climate change has impacted crop and food production. This comes as supermarkets face shortages of fresh produce and limit shoppers on the amount of produce they can purchase. Read her expert comment.
  • Tuco reports on the appointment of Matt Tebbit (Head of Catering and Bars) to the Menus of Change university research collaborative Advisory Council. 
  • Further coverage of the University's research on the benefits of Vitamin B6 for mental health by Woman (in print).

#PlanetPartners: working with global partners to protect the environment 

  • Reading.co.uk report the University-led 'FruitWatch' project which investigated climate change's impact on flowering fruit trees has restarted this year. Dr Deepa Senapathi (Agriculture) and PhD student, Chris Wyver, are quoted. Read our news story.
  • Dr Stephen Burt (Meteorology) is quoted by Reading.co.uk on possible upcoming hosepipe bans this summer due to dry weather in December and January. 
  • Packaging Europe mentions University research which suggests a lack of knowledge about food packaging hinders its chances of being successfully and correctly recycled. 

#UniForReading: our role as a civic university  

  • Reading.co.uk reports on how the University's Turkish Society has raised more than £2,000 for relief efforts for those affected by the earthquake that recently hit Turkey and Syria. Read our new story.
  • Wokingham Today mentions that representatives from the University Student's Union spoke at a vigil for Brianna Ghey, a trans girl who was killed in Chichester.

  • Jon Foster-Pedley (Dean and Director of Henley Business School Africa) wrote an opinion piece on how society is affected by crisis and it is published by Banoyi and Head Topics.
  • Zephyrnet and MG Magazine mention the University's early research in 2010, discovering CBD's medical potential to reduce epileptic seizures. 
  • Professors Nada and Andrew Kakabadse (both Henley Business School) wrote an article on how unconscious bias threatens organisational performance and it is published by Financier Worldwide. 
  • Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Van de Noort is quoted by Ed Central on the funding pressures Universities are facing. 
  • The Reading Chronicle and Wokingham Today mention the University's partnership with the rugby team, Rams.
  • BBC Radio Berkshire reported that the University has temporarily paused industrial strike action to allow room for negotiation.
