LGBT+ History Month takes place every February across the UK and the world.
During the month, staff, students and the local community celebrated LGBTQIA+ people through a programme of events, including lectures, theatre performances, social events, wellbeing sessions, and training sessions.
Every year, LGBT+ History Month has a different theme. The theme for 2025 is Activism and Social Change, or #SocialActivism.
Throughout history, LGBTQIA+ people have been activists and helped shape and create social change, advancing society for everyone.

The annual Wolfenden Lecture is named after the report written by the Wolfenden Committee, chaired by Lord Wolfenden in 1957. Lord Wolfenden was the University’s Vice-Chancellor from 1950 to 1964.
The report became a key milestone in LGBT+ history in the UK when it was recommended that "… homosexual behaviour between consenting adults in private should no longer be a criminal offence."
The LGBTQIA+ network, launched in 2014, represents and supports individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or other sexual and gender identities. The network covers all staff and doctoral and research students based in the UK or Malaysia.
Over the years, the network has curated various initiatives to raise awareness around the protection of rights for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. The LGBTQIA+ network is currently led by Dr Ruvi Ziegler.
